The province’s second-most populous city of Montreal is one of the most charming on the entire continent and is home to grandiose French-style architecture, wide tree-lined avenues and quaint backstreets. Montreal is also home to the Parc du Mont-Royal, whose peak offers stunning views of the city all year round.

January

The start of the year brings cold weather to Quebec, with temperatures frequently dipping below freezing. January sees snowstorms and freezing temperatures, particularly in areas like Montreal and Quebec City. Expect daytime temperatures around -4°C with colder nights, sometimes reaching -15°C or lower. This is prime time for winter sports, especially in the Laurentian Mountains, where skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing are in full swing.

February

Average temperatures in Montreal hover around -10°C, and the snow season is perfect for those looking to embrace Quebec's winter charm. The world-famous Carnaval de Québec takes place this month, offering an exciting opportunity to experience outdoor ice sculptures, parades, and vibrant festivities in the heart of Quebec City.

The spring skiing season is in full swing, especially at Mont-Tremblant, which sees less crowded slopes and lower prices.

April

April marks the transition into milder weather. Temperatures begin to hover between 5-11°C during the day in Montreal. However, snow is still possible, and it’s not uncommon to see a mix of rain and snow. Outdoor activities begin to move from the slopes to the trails, with many taking advantage of the thaw for hiking and cycling as the snow slowly melts.

June

With summer knocking on the door, June brings warmer temperatures, reaching an average of 20°C in Montreal. The outdoor café culture blossoms, and the streets come alive with festivals. It’s an ideal time to explore the old cobblestone streets of Quebec City or enjoy a boat cruise on the St. Lawrence River, where the views of the coastline are spectacular.

July

August

Temperatures remain warm in August, around 25°C, with the occasional heatwave pushing temperatures higher. The Montreal World Film Festival and the Québec City Summer Festival wrap up the summer season with impressive performances, street arts, and cultural events. August also offers a fantastic opportunity to visit Quebec’s many lakes and enjoy the outdoors before the coolness of fall sets in.

September

September brings the crisp coolness of fall. It’s harvest season, and Quebec’s apple orchards and vineyards are at their prime. Enjoy the beauty of the fall foliage, which begins to show vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows in the Laurentians and other forested areas.

October

The vibrant autumn colours reach their peak in October, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 14°C. This is one of the most beautiful times of the year in Quebec, with nature offering breathtaking displays of colour. It’s the perfect month for hiking and scenic drives, especially in Mont-Tremblant National Park. The Thanksgiving weekend is also celebrated, with family gatherings and traditional Quebecois cuisine.

November

November brings a chill to Quebec, with temperatures dropping to around 0°C in Montreal. The first snowfalls of the season begin, especially in the higher elevations, signalling the start of the winter season. While outdoor activities are still possible, many begin to enjoy indoor attractions, such as museums, theatres, and fine dining.

December

The festive season sets in during December, with Quebec cities like Montreal and Quebec City beautifully decorated for the holidays. Temperatures dip to an average of -5°C, making it ideal for those seeking a winter wonderland experience. Christmas markets, ice skating, and the dazzling lights of Old Quebec provide the perfect backdrop for this time of year. Snow lovers can head to ski resorts in Eastern Townships or Charlevoix.
