When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Cool, dry, and buzzing with energy. Goa enjoys a festive spillover from New Year’s celebrations, and the weather is glorious for beach days, boat trips, and markets. Temperatures peak around 31°C but evenings are pleasantly cooler. Perfect for sunset dining or exploring the Latin Quarter of Panaji.

February

A great time to visit before the heat returns. Carnival season kicks off in full swing - a vibrant mix of parades, music, and colour that reflects Goa’s Portuguese legacy. It's still dry, warm, and less crowded than December and January.

March

As the dry season continues, it starts to feel noticeably warmer. Holi brings colourful chaos to the streets and beaches. Early March is better for outdoor adventures before temperatures begin creeping toward the mid-30s.

April

Hot, dry, and quieter. Many shacks and beach bars begin winding down, but you can still enjoy near-empty beaches and cheaper stays. Inland, spice plantation tours offer a shady escape from the sun.

May

Often the hottest month, with daytime temperatures sometimes reaching 35°C or higher. The air is thick with humidity as locals prepare for the arrival of the monsoon. It’s a good time for off-season travel deals - just stay hydrated and plan activities early in the day.

June

The monsoon arrives in dramatic fashion. Lush greenery returns to the landscape, and waterfalls gush to life. While beach activities pause, Goa takes on a quieter, more introspective charm. It’s a good month for nature lovers and those curious about rural life and village festivals.

July

Rainfall is at its peak. Expect frequent, heavy showers, but also emerald hillsides and peaceful backwaters. Visiting spice farms, trekking through rain-soaked forests, or relaxing in a boutique inland retreat are ideal during this time.

August

Still wet, but rainfall becomes a little less intense. Independence Day and local festivals bring community celebrations. Beach conditions remain rough for swimming, but the region’s rich culture is easy to explore without crowds.

September

The monsoon tapers off and the sun begins to re-emerge. This is Goa in transition - still lush from the rains but with fewer downpours. It’s a great time for photographers and those seeking a more laid-back experience.

October

One of the best times to visit. Humidity drops, the sea calms, and shacks start reopening along the coast. With highs around 33°C and fresh greenery all around, October is ideal for both beach lovers and nature seekers.

November

The season hits its stride. Dry days and cooler nights make this a wonderful time for yoga retreats, festivals, and exploring Old Goa’s colonial architecture. The International Film Festival of India often takes place this month, adding cinematic flair to the cultural calendar.

December

Festive, lively, and sunny. With Christmas and New Year’s around the corner, Goa lights up with parties, fireworks, and celebrations from the beach to the hills. Temperatures average around 32°C by day, but nights are cooler and perfect for starlit gatherings and beach dinners.
