When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Here’s the updated breakdown for Malaysia, incorporating occasional temperatures: In January, Malaysia’s west coast enjoys warm, dry weather, with temperatures typically ranging from 28°C to 32°C. It’s the perfect time to visit Langkawi and Penang, while the east coast remains under the influence of the monsoon, making it less ideal.

February

By February, the weather stays sunny and warm on the west coast, and it's an excellent time for exploring Kuala Lumpur or soaking up the sun on the islands. The rain on the east coast starts to ease but remains unpredictable.

March

March brings rising temperatures, particularly in the inland cities like Kuala Lumpur, where it can reach up to 34°C. The increasing heat makes it a good month to visit highland regions like the Cameron Highlands for cooler temperatures.

April

April’s warmth continues to build, making coastal areas appealing for beachgoers. The highlands remain a popular escape, with their cooler climate offering relief from the rising humidity.

May

In May, the southwest monsoon begins to approach, and the west coast still offers dry, sunny days for beach visits, though brief rain showers become more frequent. Langkawi and Penang remain pleasant, despite the occasional rainfall.

June

June brings the start of the rainy season to the west coast, but the showers are often short-lived. Meanwhile, the east coast, with its islands like the Perhentians, enjoys ideal weather for diving and snorkelling, with clear waters and calm seas.

July

July offers perfect conditions on the east coast, with sunny days and minimal rainfall. The temperatures hover around 30°C, making it a prime time for underwater adventures. The west coast, including Kuala Lumpur, still experiences occasional showers but remains good for city exploration.

August

In August, the weather on the east coast stays sunny and warm, ideal for beach lovers and divers. The west coast sees more rain, but it’s still manageable for activities like visiting cultural landmarks in Penang or exploring urban sights in Kuala Lumpur.

September

As September rolls in, heavier rain returns to the west coast, though temperatures remain warm around 29°C. The east coast continues to be a great destination for beach holidays, but the rainy season is approaching.

October

October signals the start of the monsoon on the east coast, making it less favourable for coastal trips there. However, Langkawi and Penang on the west coast start to see a decrease in rain, making them more attractive for visitors.

November

November brings cooler, wetter conditions across much of the country, with temperatures around 27°C to 29°C. It’s still possible to enjoy the west coast, but the rain may be more frequent. Major attractions like the Petronas Towers or Batu Caves remain accessible.

December

In December, the rainy season is in full swing on the east coast, while the west coast remains relatively dry and warm, with temperatures hovering around 30°C. Langkawi and Penang become lively with holidaymakers enjoying the beaches and festive season activities.
