When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Winter in Florida is all about light and space. The air is cool and dry in the north, mild and bright in the south. Along the Panhandle, places like Pensacola and Panama City Beach are calm and peaceful, while down in the Keys, the turquoise waters remain warm enough for swimming and snorkelling. Orlando and Tampa enjoy crisp mornings, with afternoons ideal for exploring gardens or strolling waterfront parks.

February

The weather stays pleasant throughout the state - cool in Tallahassee, comfortably warm in Miami. Manatees cluster in the clear springs of Crystal River and Homosassa, and the Everglades come alive under blue skies before the heat of summer. Coastal drives and outdoor dining feel effortless this time of year.

March

Spring brings a burst of energy. Azaleas and magnolias bloom across northern Florida, and cities like St. Augustine and Gainesville are at their most colourful. Central Florida’s lakes and gardens sparkle under soft sunshine, while the southern beaches fill with swimmers and kite surfers. Daytime highs hover in the mid-20s°C - perfect for open-air adventure.

April

The whole state hums with warmth and light. The Keys are at their most idyllic, with calm seas and golden evenings, and Naples and Sanibel see long, sunlit days with gentle breezes. Inland, the springs near Ocala and De Leon remain cool and clear, drawing kayakers and swimmers. Rain is light, and the air feels clean and bright.

May

Summer begins to whisper its arrival. The Gulf Coast glows beneath long afternoons, and early mornings bring soft light over Tampa Bay. Heat builds inland, often reaching 30°C, yet coastal winds keep the beaches comfortable. It’s a beautiful time for sailing, fishing, or simply watching the sunset along Clearwater Beach or Sarasota’s Siesta Key.

June

Rain showers arrive with summer’s heat, but they come and go quickly, leaving the air fresh and fragrant. The Everglades teem with birdlife, and Central Florida’s countryside turns lush and green. Warm Gulf waters invite swimming from Anna Maria Island to the Panhandle, while Key West stays lively with long, balmy nights.

July

High summer brings vivid skies, steamy afternoons, and shimmering seas. Temperatures climb into the low 30s°C, but shade and sea breezes offer relief. Coastal life takes centre stage, with beach days, boat trips, and waterfront dining stretching from Destin’s emerald waters to Miami’s vibrant shores. Evening thunderstorms light the sky with dramatic intensity.

August

Hot, humid, and gloriously tropical, August feels wild and alive. The air hangs heavy over palm-lined streets, and the Gulf waters are bath-warm. Scalloping season begins near Steinhatchee, and snorkellers revel in crystal-clear springs and reefs. Despite the heat, early mornings and dusky evenings carry a dreamy calm unique to Florida’s deep summer.

September

The pace slows, and the state breathes again. Humidity lingers, yet the crowds thin, and the beaches regain their tranquillity. It’s a good time to explore the state parks - from the oak forests of North Florida to the mangroves of the Ten Thousand Islands. The sunsets, particularly along the Gulf, glow a little deeper each evening.

October

Autumn in Florida is subtle yet beautiful. The air turns lighter, the skies sharpen to bright blue, and temperatures settle comfortably in the mid-20s°C. Festivals fill small towns - seafood in Apalachicola, art in Mount Dora, and music in St. Petersburg. It’s one of the best months for road trips through the interior or leisurely beach days along both coasts.

November

The weather feels perfectly balanced - warm but not hot, dry yet full of light. Northern regions hint at autumn’s change, while the south remains distinctly tropical. It’s a fine time for kayaking through mangrove tunnels, hiking in Myakka River State Park, or dining outdoors in Naples or Amelia Island.

December

Florida glows quietly in winter’s sun. The air is cool in the Panhandle, gentle in the centre, and pleasantly warm in the south. Palm trees twinkle with festive lights from Jacksonville to Key West, and the mood turns laid-back and celebratory. With clear skies and calm seas, December captures the essence of Florida at its most effortless - bright, breezy, and full of simple pleasures.
