When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Winter here feels mild and welcoming. With daytime highs around 21–22°C, it’s perfect for beach walks, dolphin-spotting cruises, and exploring the Bradenton Riverwalk. Crowds are smaller than peak summer, and the cooler air makes kayaking in Robinson Preserve or cycling along the coast especially pleasant.

February

Still comfortably mild, February is ideal for al fresco dining and browsing Bradenton’s Village of the Arts. Anna Maria Island remains sunny but not sweltering, and shelling along the beaches is rewarding. It’s also a great time for birdwatching in the nearby wetlands before migration patterns shift.

March

Spring arrives with warmer, breezier days and plenty of sunshine. Families flock to the beaches for spring break, and baseball fans gather for spring training games at LECOM Park, home to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Gulf waters begin to warm, inviting early-season swims.

April

One of the best months to visit. Days are long, warm (around 27°C), and drier than summer. Perfect conditions for paddleboarding on Palma Sola Bay or boat trips to Egmont Key. Farmers’ markets brim with fresh local produce, and evenings are pleasant for sunset drinks along the beach.

May

Summer warmth sets in, with highs climbing into the low 30s°C. The water is calm, clear, and ideal for snorkelling or fishing charters. As school holidays begin, the atmosphere livens up, but quieter spots can still be found in nature reserves or tucked-away coves on Anna Maria Island.

June

Humid and hot, with highs around 32°C, and afternoon showers are common. Mornings are best for beach outings, while afternoons lend themselves to indoor attractions or shaded nature walks. Sea turtle nesting season is underway, adding a unique natural spectacle to night-time beach strolls.

July

Peak summer brings vibrant energy. Beaches fill with families, and the Fourth of July celebrations light up the sky over the Gulf. Days are hot and humid, but breezes make seaside picnics enjoyable. Evening storms often roll in dramatically, clearing the air by night.

August

The hottest and wettest month, with regular downpours and highs around 32–33°C. It’s quieter visitor-wise, making it a fine time to enjoy Anna Maria Island’s laid-back vibe. Shady mangrove trails and calm morning waters are ideal for kayaking, while seafood restaurants serve the season’s freshest catches.

September

Still warm and humid, but the pace slows further. Beaches are blissfully uncrowded, and sunsets feel even more serene. While afternoon rain remains common, the mornings are excellent for cycling, paddleboarding, or browsing Bradenton’s boutiques and art galleries.

October

Temperatures ease, with highs around 28°C, and humidity drops. Outdoor festivals return, celebrating food, art, and music. Wildlife watching improves as cooler breezes stir the estuaries and preserves. It’s also one of the most comfortable months for hiking and picnicking inland.

November

Dry, sunny days define November. Pleasant temperatures in the mid-20s°C make it a favourite for those who prefer quieter travel. It’s an excellent time for fishing, golf, and family outings to De Soto National Memorial. The festive season begins subtly with markets and events by the waterfront.

December

Winter returns with gentle sunshine and average highs of 22–23°C. The beaches remain inviting, but without the summer crowds. Holiday lights and events brighten Bradenton’s streets and piers, blending coastal charm with seasonal festivity. A wonderful escape from colder northern winters.
