When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Sarasota greets the year with clear skies and comfortable warmth - ideal for escaping colder northern climates. Daily highs reach around 22°C, perfect for beach strolls on Siesta Key or exploring the exhibits at The Ringling Museum without the summer crowds.

February

The dry season continues, bringing more blue-sky days and vibrant sunsets over the Gulf. Outdoor festivals, like the Sarasota Music Half Marathon, fill the calendar, and manatees gather in nearby warm waters, making this a great month for eco-tours and wildlife spotting.

March

Spring training baseball returns as teams like the Baltimore Orioles play at Ed Smith Stadium, drawing fans and energising the city. Beach days become more frequent, while local farmers’ markets and seafood festivals begin to bustle. With temperatures hovering around 25°C, it’s one of the best times to be outdoors.

April

This month brings warm days and balmy evenings, perfect for kayaking through the mangrove tunnels at Lido Key or biking along the Legacy Trail. Before the summer humidity arrives, the Gulf is already warm enough for swimming, and art walks and food fests keep culture lovers entertained.

May

As temperatures climb towards 30°C, the beaches remain the focal point. Turtle nesting season begins, offering quiet early-morning glimpses of conservation in action. With school still in session, crowds are light and the pace pleasantly slow.

June

Summer kicks in with longer days and sporadic afternoon showers. The Gulf waters feel like a bath, and locals often head out for paddleboarding, boating, or sunset sailing trips. Though more humid, breezes from the water make beach time enjoyable. Family-friendly events pick up as summer break begins.

July

Expect hot, humid conditions and highs around 32°C, making shade and sea your best friends. Independence Day brings fireworks over the bay and festive gatherings at Bayfront Park and the beaches. It’s a lively time to experience Sarasota’s laid-back summer energy.

August

Heat and humidity persist, but early mornings and late evenings still invite exploration. Rain showers are common but brief. This is a good time for museum visits, cool escapes like the Mote Marine Laboratory, or sipping cocktails with a sea breeze at waterfront restaurants.

September

Hurricane season is still active, so weather can be unpredictable - but often pleasantly warm and quiet, especially early in the month. With thinner crowds, it’s a peaceful time to enjoy the beaches, go fishing, or catch a performance at the Sarasota Opera as the fall arts season begins to stir.

October

As the humidity fades, Sarasota slips into its most comfortable stretch. Cultural events, like Ringling International Arts Festival, kick off the high season early. Temperatures around 29°C make for ideal days at Longboat Key or Myakka River State Park, now vibrant with birdlife and colour.

November

With cooler, drier air and thinner crowds than peak season, this is a hidden gem of a month. Thanksgiving brings seasonal menus and family events to downtown and the waterfront. It’s still warm enough for beach lounging, yet perfect for outdoor dining and alfresco art shows.

December

Festive charm meets tropical warmth, with holiday boat parades, illuminated palm trees, and Christmas markets blending coastal style with seasonal cheer. The average high sits at a balmy 23°C, inviting visitors to spend their winter break beneath the sun rather than the snow.
