January

January in Northern Thailand is cool and crisp, especially in the mornings and evenings, with daytime temperatures averaging around 25°C. The cool season is perfect for exploring ancient temples in Chiang Mai or trekking in the misty hills around Pai.

February

By February, the weather begins to warm slightly, though it remains comfortable for outdoor activities. This is an excellent time to visit Doi Inthanon National Park, where the waterfalls and mountain views are breathtaking.

March

March sees a noticeable rise in temperature, with highs reaching 32°C or so. It’s still a good time for cultural experiences, like visiting Chiang Rai’s iconic White Temple, but mornings are best for outdoor adventures.

April

In April, the heat peaks, often climbing to 36°C. The Songkran Festival, Thailand’s water-soaked New Year celebration, makes it an exciting and refreshing month to visit despite the high temperatures.

May

May marks the start of the rainy season, bringing occasional showers that refresh the landscapes. The lush countryside comes alive, and activities like bamboo rafting or exploring hill tribe villages remain enjoyable.

June

June offers a mix of sunny days and brief rains, with temperatures around 30°C. The green season is a fantastic time for hiking, as the cooler temperatures after rain make the trails more pleasant.

July

By July, the rain becomes more frequent, but it’s usually confined to the late afternoons. The lush paddy fields and quiet towns offer a serene escape from the busier cities.

August

August is one of the wettest months, but the vibrant greenery of the mountains and forests makes it a stunning time to explore the region’s natural beauty. Indoor activities like cooking classes are also great alternatives during downpours.

September

September remains rainy, but the dramatic landscapes, including the waterfalls at their fullest, make it worthwhile for adventurous travellers. Off-season perks include fewer crowds at popular attractions.

October

In October, the rains begin to recede, and the weather turns cooler, especially in the evenings. The countryside is still lush, and it’s a great time to explore hidden gems like the caves in Mae Hong Son.

November

November is one of the most popular months, as the dry season returns and temperatures average around 28°C. Festivals like Loy Krathong light up the region with floating lanterns and candlelit offerings.

December
