When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

One of the best months to visit Cambodia, January offers cool, dry weather, perfect for exploring the temples of Angkor Wat and the bustling city of Phnom Penh. It's also a great time to visit the coast and enjoy the beaches of Sihanoukville or Koh Rong.

February

Similar to January, February is warm and dry, with temperatures rising slightly to around 28°C. It’s still a great time for sightseeing, and ideal for outdoor activities like trekking in the Cardamom Mountains or exploring Cambodia’s countryside.

March

Temperatures begin to rise in March, reaching around 30°C, but the dry weather continues. While it gets hotter, it’s still a good time for temple tours and cultural experiences. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times for outdoor activities.

April

April is the hottest month in Cambodia, with temperatures soaring above 35°C. The heat can be intense, especially in the cities, but it’s a festive time due to the Khmer New Year celebrations. Visiting temples early or relaxing by the coast can help beat the heat.

May

The hot season continues, but occasional rain showers signal the start of the wet season. It’s a quieter time for tourism, with fewer crowds at Angkor Wat. The countryside starts to green, and the cooler evenings make it more pleasant for exploring.

June

Rainfall becomes more frequent, but the showers are usually short and followed by sunshine. The landscape is lush, and it's a good time for visiting Cambodia's rural areas, though humidity is high. The temples are quieter, and prices start to drop.

July

The monsoon season is in full swing, with regular rains and higher humidity. However, this can be a beautiful time to visit, with the countryside at its greenest. It’s less crowded, and while some roads may be muddy, it’s a peaceful time for exploring.

August

Similar to July, August brings frequent rain and lush landscapes. While the weather may limit some outdoor activities, the dramatic skies and fewer tourists offer a unique experience. It’s also a great time for photography at the temples, with fewer people and vibrant surroundings.

September

September is one of the wettest months, with heavy rainfall and occasional flooding in some areas. It’s the off-peak season, making it a quiet and tranquil time to visit the temples and enjoy the green countryside, though travel may be affected by the rain.

October

The rainy season begins to taper off, with fewer showers and more sunshine. The temperatures are cooler, and the landscapes are still lush. It’s a great time for visiting Cambodia’s national parks and waterfalls, as well as the quieter temple complexes.

November

The dry season returns, with pleasant temperatures around 27°C. November is one of the best months to visit Cambodia, as the weather is cool and comfortable, and the landscape is still green from the rains. It’s perfect for sightseeing, outdoor activities, and cultural festivals.

December

December is peak tourist season, with dry, cool weather and plenty of sunshine. It’s the ideal time to visit Angkor Wat, enjoy boat trips on the Mekong River, or relax on Cambodia’s southern beaches. The pleasant temperatures and festive atmosphere make this a perfect month to explore the country.
