January

The year begins with January's icy embrace, with temperatures often dropping to -10°C or lower. Minnesotans make the most of it with ice fishing on frozen lakes and exhilarating snowmobiling trails.

February

February keeps the winter magic alive, offering snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in scenic areas like the Boundary Waters or Itasca State Park. The Winter Carnival in St. Paul is a cultural highlight.

March

As March approaches, winter starts to loosen its grip, though snow may still blanket the state. Maple syrup tapping begins, with local farms welcoming visitors to learn about this sweet tradition.

April

Spring begins in April, but it arrives gradually. Melting snow reveals vibrant landscapes, and birdwatchers flock to Minnesota’s wetlands to witness the seasonal migration.

May

By May, the Land of 10,000 Lakes is coming into its own. Temperatures reach around 18°C, making it ideal for fishing or hiking in parks like Gooseberry Falls or Jay Cooke State Park.

June

June ushers in warm, sunny days, with highs averaging 25°C. It’s prime time for exploring Minnesota’s lakes by kayak or enjoying a boat cruise on Lake Minnetonka.

July

The heat of July invites swimming, camping, and lakeside barbecues. With temperatures often around 28°C, it’s the perfect month to experience the vibrant Minneapolis Aquatennial Festival.

August

In August, summer holds strong, offering great weather for the Minnesota State Fair. Known as the “Great Minnesota Get-Together,” it’s a celebration of food, fun, and family traditions.

September

September marks the transition to autumn, as temperatures cool to 20°C. The autumn colours start to appear, with the North Shore Scenic Drive offering breathtaking views of fiery foliage.

October

By October, the state is ablaze with autumn hues. Apple orchards and pumpkin patches are in full swing, and the brisk air enhances scenic hikes in places like Whitewater State Park.

November

November brings chilly weather, with highs dropping to around 5°C. It’s a quieter time, perfect for cosying up in a cabin or enjoying indoor attractions like the Mall of America or local museums.

December

Winter returns in December, blanketing the state in snow. Holiday lights festivals and outdoor ice-skating rinks, such as Rice Park in St. Paul, add a festive sparkle to the cold season.
