When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

January offers calm, sunny days with temperatures typically hovering around the low 20s - ideal for winter sun seekers. While the Red Sea might feel brisk, it’s still warm enough for diving, snorkelling, or lounging on the beach under clear skies. The town’s relaxed atmosphere makes it a popular escape from colder climates.

February

February stays dry and mild, with slightly warmer days and cool evenings. Sea conditions are usually favourable for boat trips to Giftun Island or dolphin-spotting excursions. It’s also a good time for quad biking or desert safaris without the intense heat.

March

March begins to warm up, with daytime highs often reaching the mid-20s. Spring flowers dot the landscape, and the Red Sea becomes more inviting for swimmers and divers. The town livens up with an influx of sun-seeking visitors, but beaches and coral reefs remain blissfully tranquil.

April

April sees the return of longer, sunnier days and average highs around 30°C. This is peak time for snorkelling adventures in the crystal-clear waters, especially around the coral-rich sites of Mahmya or Abu Ramada. Restaurants and beach bars start to buzz with a livelier pace.

May

May brings warmth without the intensity of high summer. With highs around 34°C, it’s perfect for both relaxing by the sea and exploring inland adventures like Bedouin village visits or desert stargazing tours. The Red Sea is delightfully warm and visibility for diving is excellent.

June

June marks the start of the hot season, but the coastal breeze helps balance the rising heat. Early mornings and late afternoons are best for activities, while midday is ideal for a siesta or relaxing by a shaded pool. Resorts are in full swing, catering to summer holidaymakers.

July

July delivers consistent sunshine and peak summer temperatures, often around 37°C or more. While it’s undeniably hot, the sea is at its most inviting. Popular water parks and beachfront clubs are buzzing, and nightlife in the marina picks up with outdoor music and seafood feasts.

August

August stays very hot, with daytime highs often exceeding 35°C. It’s a popular month for families, so expect a busy atmosphere, especially at all-inclusive resorts. Water-based activities - from parasailing to scuba diving - are the best ways to cool off.

September

September offers a welcome shift, with slightly cooler evenings and highs easing into the mid-30s. It’s a wonderful time for late-summer travel, with fewer crowds and ideal water temperatures for snorkelling and diving amid vibrant marine life.

October

October strikes the perfect balance between warm weather and fewer visitors. With temperatures between the upper 20s to 32°C, it’s still beach-perfect but more comfortable for exploring. The breeze makes boat trips especially pleasant, and underwater visibility remains superb.

November

November ushers in mild, sunny days that feel like a second spring. Highs of around 28°C make it a great month for mixing beach time with leisurely excursions, like visiting the nearby desert mountains or taking a glass-bottom boat ride.

December

December stays warm and dry, with average highs around 24°C. It’s a peaceful time to enjoy Hurghada’s coastal charm - whether that’s a spa day, a seafood dinner overlooking the marina, or diving among shipwrecks. Festive season travellers are rewarded with sunshine and serenity.
