When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

The year begins hot and humid, with temperatures around 26–31°C. Occasional tropical showers bring lush greenery to the islands. This is a quieter period for tourism, making it ideal for exploring waterfalls, rainforest trails, and village life. Coastal snorkelling and diving remain excellent, though brief afternoon rainstorms are common.

February

Hot and humid, with rainfall frequent, particularly on the western islands. Waterfalls and rivers are in full flow, making inland excursions spectacular. The islands’ beaches remain inviting for swimming and paddleboarding, and cultural experiences, such as traditional Fijian ceremonies, offer indoor and outdoor opportunities.

March

Temperatures remain around 26–30°C, but rainfall begins to taper slightly. Reef snorkelling and diving are excellent, and lagoon waters remain warm. Inland trails and forested areas are rich with tropical flora, and quieter accommodation options make this a rewarding shoulder-season time to visit.

April

The wet season ends, with highs around 25–29°C and lower humidity. Days are sunny and warm, ideal for sailing, kayaking, and island-hopping. Rainfall is sporadic, and the rainforest is vibrant and green, making waterfalls and natural pools particularly scenic. It’s also a lively time for exploring local markets and villages.

May

Early dry season, with temperatures around 24–28°C and low humidity. Perfect for beach activities, reef diving, and hiking. The clear skies and calm seas make this an excellent month for water sports, inter-island cruises, and photography of tropical landscapes.

June

Dry and comfortable, 22–27°C, with light breezes and minimal rainfall. Popular for weddings and honeymoons, this is an ideal time for exploring coral reefs, enjoying luxury resorts, and taking scenic hikes inland. Cultural festivals and village visits provide authentic insight into Fijian life.

July

Coolest month of the year, 21–26°C, with sunny skies and calm seas. This is peak dry-season travel: excellent for snorkelling, diving, sailing, and coastal walks. Inland trails and rainforest hikes are comfortable, while cultural tours and traditional feasts add local flavour.

August

Still dry and sunny, with highs around 22–27°C. Watersports and reef exploration remain at their best, while fewer afternoon showers make inland adventures more predictable. Whale watching begins in some regions, adding another seasonal highlight.

September

Temperatures rise slightly, 23–28°C, and humidity starts creeping in. This is an excellent shoulder-season month: reefs, lagoons, and beaches remain calm and clear, and rainforest walks are rewarding with early signs of spring bloom. Cultural experiences and village visits continue to be engaging.

October

Warm and increasingly humid, 24–29°C. Reef snorkelling, diving, and coastal exploration remain superb. Rainfall is still low compared to the wet season, making it an ideal time to combine beach relaxation with hiking and inland sightseeing. Local festivals and music events enliven the islands.

November

Humidity rises, with temperatures around 25–30°C. Afternoon tropical showers become more frequent, refreshing the rainforest and rivers. Early wet-season conditions create spectacular waterfalls, and the islands feel vibrant with both natural beauty and cultural activity.

December

Hot, humid, and approaching the wet season, 26–31°C. Occasional tropical storms may occur, particularly late in the month. Despite this, the islands remain inviting for water sports, beach relaxation, and exploring villages. Holiday celebrations bring lively events and festive atmospheres to resorts and towns.
