Carnival festivities bring a lively atmosphere to mountain villages, with traditional parades and masked celebrations in towns like Ortisei and Bolzano.

March

With daytime temperatures hovering around 0°C to 10°C, March signals the transition to spring skiing. The snow remains reliable in higher-altitude resorts like Arabba and Marmolada, while lower elevations see the first signs of melting. This is an excellent month for longer ski days, followed by relaxing in outdoor terraces with panoramic mountain views.

April

Ski season winds down, but spring hikes become possible at lower elevations. Temperatures begin to rise, reaching 5°C to 15°C, and wildflowers start appearing in valleys like Val di Funes. Easter celebrations bring local traditions, and Bolzano’s markets offer seasonal treats, making it a great time for a mix of nature and culture.

May

Popular hikes like Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Seceda Ridge offer stunning views. The Dolomites' cultural side comes alive with mountain festivals and outdoor concerts in towns like San Candido.

August

The warmest month, with temperatures between 18°C and 26°C, sees an influx of visitors. The Südtirol Wine Festival in Bolzano showcases local wines, perfect for combining nature with gastronomy.

October

Autumn takes hold, painting the larch forests in fiery shades of orange. Temperatures range from 5°C to 15°C, making it a great month for peaceful hikes in Val Gardena or the Rosengarten massif. Traditional harvest festivals in small villages celebrate local produce, from apples to speck (smoked ham).

November

Colder temperatures settle in, typically between 0°C and 8°C, with the first snow dusting the peaks. This is a quiet month, ideal for those seeking solitude in nature. Many mountain huts and hiking routes close, but wellness resorts in Merano and Val Badia offer spa treatments with panoramic Alpine views.

December

The festive season begins, with Christmas markets in Bolzano, Bressanone, and Brunico setting a magical winter scene. Ski resorts reopen, and the Dolomites sparkle under fresh snow.
