January

As February arrives, the chill lingers, but so do opportunities for skiing and hiking in the Albanian Alps. The off-season makes coastal towns like Saranda and Vlora delightfully uncrowded, offering tranquil seaside views, albeit not for swimming.

March

With March, spring begins to emerge, and temperatures rise to around 10°C to 16°C. It’s an excellent time to visit Tirana, where parks and gardens come alive with blossoms. Inland, Lake Ohrid and Lake Shkodër offer serene landscapes and fewer crowds.

April

April is when Albania truly comes to life. Mild weather, with temperatures around 15°C, makes it perfect for exploring archaeological sites like Butrint or hiking in Llogara National Park. The Easter celebrations, blending Orthodox traditions and local customs, are also a cultural highlight.

May

By May, Albania basks in warm sunshine, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C. The beaches along the Albanian Riviera begin to open, and the countryside is lush and green, perfect for outdoor adventures. Traditional festivals, such as the Flower Festival in Permet, showcase local culture.

June

June heralds the start of summer, with temperatures climbing to 25°C or more. The beaches of Ksamil and Dhërmi become vibrant with life, offering crystal-clear waters for swimming and water sports. Inland, the cooler valleys of Theth and Valbona attract hikers and nature enthusiasts.

July

In July, the summer heat intensifies, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C. Coastal resorts are at their liveliest, while the capital Tirana offers a mix of history and nightlife. For those seeking respite, the mountains remain cool and inviting.

August

August remains hot, with temperatures similar to July. Festivals such as the Gjirokastër Folk Festival add a cultural dimension to the season. The coastline is at its busiest, making it a lively time for seaside holidays, though quieter beaches can still be found further south.

September

With September, the heat softens to around 22°C to 28°C, making it one of the best months to visit. The grape harvest begins, and wine tours in Berat or Përmet are popular. The beaches remain warm and welcoming but are far less crowded than in peak summer.

October

October offers pleasant weather, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 22°C. Autumn colours transform the landscapes, particularly in the mountains. It’s also an excellent time for exploring Albania’s rich history, from the Ottoman-era town of Krujë to the Apollonia archaeological site.

November

By November, cooler days and rain showers signal the approach of winter, with temperatures between 10°C and 16°C. The quieter season is perfect for immersing yourself in the cafés of Tirana or visiting local markets to experience Albania’s culinary delights.

December

December brings a festive spirit to Albania. Snow blankets the mountains, creating opportunities for skiing and snowshoeing. Cities like Tirana and Shkodër light up with holiday decorations, while traditional dishes like baklava and tavë kosi take centre stage during family gatherings.
