When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

One of the most comfortable times of year, with warm days around 27–30°C and relatively low humidity. Seas are generally calm and clear, making it ideal for swimming, snorkelling and boat trips around the island. Evenings tend to be lively along the main beaches, with relaxed waterfront dining and fire shows.

February

Conditions remain settled and sunny, with temperatures close to 30°C. The sea is often particularly clear at this time of year, and the island’s beaches are well suited to long afternoons by the water. Early mornings are pleasant for coastal walks before the sun becomes stronger.

March

Temperatures begin to climb, often reaching 31–33°C. Sea breezes help keep the heat manageable, and the water remains inviting for swimming. It’s a good time for boat excursions around the smaller coves and rocky headlands that dot the coastline.

April

Hot and bright, frequently 32–34°C. Thai New Year celebrations bring a lively atmosphere to the island, with water-splashing festivities taking place along the beaches and in the small village streets. Swimming and shaded beachfront cafés offer welcome relief from the heat.

May

Humidity increases and the first scattered showers appear. Rain typically falls in brief bursts, leaving plenty of sunny intervals. Visitor numbers tend to ease slightly, creating a more relaxed feel across the beaches.

June

Warm and occasionally showery, around 29–31°C. Compared with many other Thai islands, Ko Samet often sees slightly less rainfall during the monsoon period. Calm mornings frequently give way to passing afternoon showers before clearing again later in the day.

July

A mix of sunshine and tropical rain. Temperatures stay close to 30°C, and the island’s beaches remain appealing between showers. Weekends can feel lively as visitors arrive from Bangkok for short breaks.

August

Similar conditions continue, with alternating sunny spells and brief rainfall. The sea stays warm and suitable for swimming, and the island’s small coves provide sheltered spots when winds pick up.

September

Typically the wettest period of the year, with heavier showers and cloudier days. Even so, rain rarely lasts all day, and quiet beaches and lush vegetation give the island a calm, unhurried atmosphere.

October

Rain gradually begins to ease, and clearer spells become more frequent. Temperatures remain around 29–31°C. With fewer visitors than the peak winter months, it can feel like a peaceful time to explore the coastline.

November

Conditions improve noticeably as the dry season returns. Sunny days and calmer seas make beach visits and snorkelling more enjoyable again, while the island’s restaurants and bars regain their lively evening rhythm.

December

Warm, dry and bright, usually 27–30°C. The festive season brings a cheerful buzz to the island, with busy beaches during the day and relaxed dining and entertainment along the shore once the sun goes down.
