Looking closer to home, Cape Verde is made up of 10 volcanic islands just off the Western coast of Africa and is less than 1,000 miles south of the Canary Islands. Whilst there’s plenty of choices for accommodation, there’s also lots to see and do outside of the hotels and resorts.

For example, you could visit Poco Do Fogo an active stratovolcano that and the country’s highest peak or relax at any of the gorgeous beaches that are dotted around the destination. You might even fancy trying a glass of grogue, Cape Verde’s national drink, a special kind of rum that’s distilled from sugarcane.

Whilst it may not be quite as well known as Dubai, as the capital city and the largest emirate of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi has a lot going for it. Tanzania & Zanzibar

Home to the continent’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania should be high on the list for anyone who is yet to experience the African wilderness. Then just 30 miles off the coast you’ll find the Zanzibar, made up of two main islands and a handful of smaller ones, which are also home to an array of rare species. What’s more is that Zanzibar has more than its fair share of natural beauty, with plenty of stunning beaches to unwind on.

Vietnam

Florida Keys

Bahamas

Just a stone’s throw away from Florida, the Bahamas consists of 700 of small islands that make for the perfect Caribbean getaway. As well as their beauty, the islands also share a rich history and the capital city of Nassau was once a pirate stronghold. Although you won’t find any pirates there these days, you won’t struggle to find a bottle of rum.

If you’re planning to stay active on your holiday, the crystal waters around the Bahamas are perfect for watersports. The waters don’t just attract humans though as there’s an uninhabited island in Exuma where you’ll find a colony feral pigs that love a good swim in the sea.

Koh Samui

As well as being one of the most famous islands in Thailand, Koh Samui is also the second-largest, which means there’s plenty to explore. For culture, you might fancy visiting the Big Buddha statue and the temples of Wat Plai Laem. If you’re looking for some delicious street food then head to the night market that takes place in the Fisherman’s Village in Bophut.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to party then head to Chaweng, where you’ll find an abundance of bars and nightclubs. Of course, if you want to relax and unwind, then a visit to any one of Koh Samui’s beaches won’t disappoint. It’s worth noting that the beach at Chaweng is one of the busiest, however, even in the peak tourist season, there’s still plenty of quiet beaches to be found around the island if you’re after some tranquillity.

French Polynesia
