Algarve
- Temperature: 23º
- Sunshine: 9 hours
- Rainy days: 8
- Flight Time: 4 hours
As one of the sunniest destinations in Europe, it’s no wonder that Portugal’s most southern coast happens to be one of the world’s most popular beach destinations to visit during the spring months. The Algarve stretches for 155km and is dotted with villas, bars, hotels, restaurants and blue-flag beaches – especially between Lagos and Faro.
The popular resort of Albufeira has something for everyone, including a strip of bars and nightclubs for anyone looking to party as well as picturesque cobble streets for those looking to relax. Near Albufeira, you’ll find São Rafael, famous for its stunning beach and rock formations.
British Virgin Islands
- Temperature: 30º
- Sunshine: 9 hours
- Rainy days: 8
- Flight Time: 9 hours
Whilst this volcanic archipelago remains particularly popular among the yachting community, the British Virgin Islands have plenty to offer in and out of the water. Made up of four main islands, the BVI – as they’re often referred to – are famous for their idyllic, reef-lined beaches. Rainy season in much of the Caribbean usually begins around June, so April is a great time to get away for the BVI.
Located in the Caribbean, the largest of the Virgin Islands, Tortola is home to not only the capital city of Road Town but also the Sage Mountain National Park – a volcano that’s covered in the luscious rainforest that reaches a height of 1,716 feet.
Koh Lanta
- Temperature: 34º
- Sunshine: 12 hours
- Rainy days: 11
- Flight Time: 14 hours
In the south of Krabi, Thailand, you’ll find the island group of Koh Lanta, renowned for their rainforests, mangroves and iconic limescale rock formations. What’s more, it’s coral-fringed bays make it a paradise for beach dwellers and divers alike.
Koh Lanta maintains a comfortable equilibrium between being developed enough to offer all the amenities you might need whilst being left unspoiled by mass-tourism, giving visitors the sensation of tranquillity and seclusion all year round. April is a great time to head to this region of Thailand as it’s hot and a good couple of months ahead of when the rainy season starts.
Kos
- Temperature: 20º
- Sunshine: 7 hours
- Rainy days: 5
- Flight Time: 4 hours
Set in the glistening Aegean Sea, the island of Kos is a perfect getaway for anyone seeking Greek food and hospitality. Although it’s best known for its sandy beaches, there’s more to do on this island than sunbathe and swim – which is why it’s one of the best sunny destinations to holiday in April. Sure, it’s not exactly ‘hot’ here at this time (compared to say the Caribbean or Southeast Asia), but for a spring getaway during April – a month before the summer rush, it’s near perfect.
If you’re looking for culture then a visit to the Casa Romana is a must. This ancient Roman villa dates back to the second century and features Pompei-like architecture and stunning mural and, mosaics.
Moreover, Kos Town has an abundance of historical Greek and Roman landmarks, as well as harbour-side dining and a lively nightlife. If you’re looking for a wild night then head to Kardamena and visit any its beach bars and nightclubs.
Seychelles
- Temperature: 31º
- Sunshine: 8 hours
- Rainy days: 16
- Flight Time: 10 hours
As the jewel of the Indian Ocean, Seychelles is on the bucket list for many travellers seeking pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. There’s little fluctuation in temperatures during the year here, but the spring months are perhaps a degree or two higher than most. It can be a little wet at this time – and reasonably humid, but rainfall is certainly on the decrease with that trend continuing well into the summer.
With 115 islands across the country, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to finding places to stay and explore. This island nation is a melting pot of cultures, and you’ll have no difficulty immersing yourself in local life, especially if you visit the main islands of Mahé, La Digue and Praslin where you’ll experience the best of Creole and Seychellois culture.
As well as benefitting from a wide range of cultural influences, Seychelles is home to a widely biodiverse range of exotic wildlife, such as giant Aldabra tortoises and Warbler birds. If you really want to see the wildlife, you might fancy a stay on Bird Island, where you can stay in a private resort made up of 24 bungalows.
Fiji
- Temperature: 31º
- Sunshine: 6.5 hours
- Rainy days: 19
- Flight Time: 24 hours
If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a castaway, but without actually being a castaway (and with 5* accommodation), then Fiji could well be the perfect destination for your April getaway. We’ve no doubt that Fiji’s 333 islands – one of which is even called Castaway Island – will delight all who gets to gaze up its ivory shores and dazzling waters. The islands begin to come out of the raining season in April and May while temperatures are a degree or two higher than the marginally cooler months of June to August.
Although there’s a considerable travel time to contend with, you could plan a few days in Los Angeles, which is one of the typical stopovers for most UK flight paths. After all, the journey is just as important as the destination…
Agadir
- Temperature: 22º
- Sunshine: 10 hours
- Rainy days: 2
- Flight Time: 3 hours 55 mins
Looking closer to home, at the foot of the Anti-Atlas Mountains you’ll find Morocco’s most visited tourist destination – Agadir. Although much of the city fell in a catastrophic earthquake in 1960, the city has been rebuilt and now boasts modern amenities and stellar accommodation.
If you’re looking for culture, don’t let the city’s modernisation put you off as Agadir still has plenty of its traditional charm. Visitors can immerse themselves in Moroccan culture by wandering through the city’s many souks, mosques, bazaars and minarets.
Late spring is an excellent time to visit, as it will be warm here without being blistering and you’ll avoid the summer crowds too.
Las Vegas
- Temperature: 27º
- Sunshine: 13 hours
- Rainy days: 3
- Flight Time: 10 hours 30 mins
The Nevada Desert is home to both Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, both are high on the list of many travellers and popular with those looking for warm us destinations in April.
Although it may not be for everyone, there’s no argument that Las Vegas is a destination like no other – this is a city that’s open 24/7 for anyone looking to party. To think of this Vegas as a place just for gambling would be an oversight as it has quickly become the Entertainment Capital of the World and has plenty to offer visitors in and out of the casinos.
Meanwhile, the Grand Canyon National Park, which is actually in Arizona, boasts millions of years worth of geological history – but you don’t have to be a rock expert to marvel at its beauty.
Dalaman
- Temperature: 21º
- Sunshine: 9 hours
- Rainy days: 8
- Flight Time: 4 hours
The area around the Turkish town of Dalaman is renowned for its stunning white sandy beaches, pale blue waters, rural villages, mountain-side towns and Ancient Roman ruins. This unique destination will pique the interest of anyone looking for something a little different and has helped the region continue being a firm favourite among tourists looking for warm holiday destinations in April.
For the most part, the area is very relaxed and perfect for anyone looking to wind down rather than let their hair down. In Dalaman, you can get a taste of traditional Turkish life and take in the naturally breathtaking beauty of mountainous vistas. That being said, the resort towns of Olu Deniz and Icmeler liven up in the evenings with a variety of bars and restaurants.
Lombok & Gili Islands
- Temperature: 30º
- Sunshine: 8 hours
- Rainy days: 12
- Flight Time: 17 hours 30 mins
If Bali is the Ibiza of Indonesia then Lombok & Gili Islands are like Lake Garda. The lack of developed infrastructures and modern amenities are all part of the appeal with these laid back, remote and unspoilt destinations.
Lombok is home to Mount Rinjani, an active volcano, where you’ll find a stunning crater lake – the perfect reward for anyone looking to hike up the 15.2-mile trail from the nearby village of Senaru.
Meanwhile, the Gilli islands offer a glimpse to what the islands of Thailand may have looked like before they became overly-populated with tourists. These three small islands are all car-free, with bicycles and horse-drawn carts being the local means of transport. These islands are well-known among backpackers and still offer a tranquil sense of solitude as well as many diving and snorkelling hotspots. The rainy season here ends in March, so April is the perfect time to head out to this lush paradise.
