January

February remains icy, though the lengthening days hint at the coming of spring. Ice skating in Bastejkalna Park or along the frozen Daugava River are popular winter activities during this time.

March

By March, temperatures begin to rise, reaching around 0°C to 5°C. The snow starts to melt, and the city slowly awakens with the first signs of spring, making it a quieter time to visit Riga’s museums and landmarks.

April

The weather becomes milder during April, with temperatures hovering between 5°C and 12°C. Blossoms begin to appear in parks like Vērmanes Garden, and it’s an ideal time for leisurely walks through Riga’s cobbled streets.

May

May brings the freshness of spring, with temperatures climbing to 15°C or so. The city’s outdoor terraces open, and events like the Riga Marathon draw visitors to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

August remains warm, with temperatures around 20°C to 24°C. The city’s parks are lush and inviting, and it’s a perfect month for enjoying boat rides along the Daugava or indulging in seasonal Latvian cuisine.

September

With temperatures dropping to 15°C, September brings cooler air. The golden hues of autumn start to appear, and it’s a wonderful time to visit Riga’s Central Market or take a day trip to Sigulda for stunning fall landscapes.

October

In October, autumn is in full swing, and temperatures range from 8°C to 12°C. The city’s historic sites, like Riga Cathedral, are particularly atmospheric under the amber glow of the falling leaves.

November

November sees shorter days and a noticeable chill, with temperatures dipping to around 5°C. Riga begins to prepare for the festive season, and early Christmas markets may start to appear in the Old Town.

December

December is a magical time, with temperatures around 0°C to -3°C. The Christmas markets in Dome Square and other parts of the city offer festive treats, crafts, and the scent of mulled wine, making Riga a winter wonderland.
