When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

The island is still deep in monsoon season. Ferries don’t run and resorts are closed, as heavy rains and choppy seas make conditions unsuitable for visitors.

February

While weather may start to show signs of calming, Redang remains officially off-limits. Restoration and maintenance take place in anticipation of the upcoming season.

March

Tourism resumes, and the island reawakens with fresh energy. Early March is ideal for those seeking fewer crowds, calm waters, and lush scenery. Expect daytime peaks around 32°C. Coral reefs flourish in the warm seas, making this a fantastic time for snorkelling and diving.

April

This is peak Redang: crystal-clear waters, calm seas, and thriving marine life. Visibility underwater is exceptional, and resorts are in full swing. Turtles begin to come ashore to nest - a magical sight for nature lovers.

May

Sun-drenched and bustling, May draws both beachgoers and divers. Sea temperatures are inviting, and gentle breezes keep the heat manageable. Marine life is at its most vibrant - from parrotfish and clownfish to reef sharks and rays.

June

Redang remains in prime condition, with warm, dry days and balmy nights. Daytime highs reach the low 30s. It’s a popular time for families, and accommodations tend to book out early. Mornings are perfect for boat trips or beach yoga.

July

Still firmly within the dry season, July delivers beautiful weather and calm conditions. It’s also one of the best months for spotting green and hawksbill turtles. Sunset cruises and barbecues by the sea are in high demand.

August

A lively, sunny month on the island. While school holidays increase visitor numbers, the island rarely feels overcrowded thanks to limited accommodation. Snorkelling and diving trips continue daily, and the coral gardens remain pristine.

September

The start of the shoulder season, with slightly fewer visitors and a rising chance of rain later in the day. Early September can still deliver glorious beach weather, though intermittent showers hint at the approaching monsoon.

October

Humidity rises and rain becomes more frequent, particularly mid-to-late month. Resorts begin winding down operations. Still, early October can offer peaceful stays with discounted rates and moments of bright, tropical beauty between showers.

November

Monsoon conditions return in earnest, bringing high winds, rough seas, and closures. Redang’s official tourist season ends, and the island becomes inaccessible.

December

Redang remains closed. Nature takes the time to recharge, while visitors look forward to the reopening in spring. The surrounding marine park continues to thrive beneath the waves, ready to impress when tourism resumes.
