When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Winter along the Riviera is gentle compared with much of Europe. Days often reach around 12–14°C, with clear light over the Mediterranean and quieter streets around the Old Town. It’s a good time for coastal walks along the Promenade des Anglais or exploring museums and galleries without the summer crowds.

February

Mild winter weather continues, and the city becomes lively during the famous Nice Carnival. Parades, illuminated floats and street celebrations fill the boulevards, while the cooler temperatures make sightseeing comfortable. The surrounding hills and gardens begin to show early signs of spring.

March

Early spring arrives gradually. Days lengthen, gardens start to bloom and the coastal light becomes brighter and softer. Walks through the Old Town, harbour area and seaside promenades are particularly enjoyable, and nearby hilltop villages offer clear views across the Côte d’Azur.

April

Spring settles in, with temperatures often reaching around 16–18°C. Parks and gardens are colourful, and café terraces begin filling again. The pleasant weather suits coastal cycling routes, harbour strolls and day trips into the surrounding countryside.

May

One of the most appealing months to visit. Warm days, often around 20–23°C, arrive before the peak summer crowds. Markets brim with seasonal produce, coastal paths and hilltop villages are lively with walkers, and outdoor dining becomes a regular part of daily life.

June

Early summer brings long sunny days and temperatures around the mid-20s°C. Beaches become increasingly popular, and the city’s squares and waterfront terraces stay lively well into the evening. Boat trips along the coast and visits to nearby towns are particularly enjoyable in the stable weather.

July

High summer arrives, typically 27–30°C. The Mediterranean sparkles under strong sunlight, and the Promenade des Anglais buzzes with visitors, cyclists and evening strollers. Early mornings are ideal for exploring markets and historic streets before the heat builds.

August

Warm, settled conditions continue, often around 28–30°C. Beaches, coastal walks and harbour cafés remain busy, while the surrounding countryside offers scenic escapes. Evenings bring a relaxed Riviera atmosphere, with outdoor dining and cultural events across the city.

September

Late summer remains warm and settled, usually around 24–27°C. The sea is still pleasantly warm, making swimming and coastal activities rewarding. With slightly fewer visitors, it becomes a particularly comfortable time to explore gardens, markets and nearby coastal towns.

October

Autumn brings gentler temperatures, often around 20–23°C, and clear Mediterranean light. Walks along the seafront and through the Old Town remain pleasant, while regional food markets begin reflecting the autumn harvest.

November

Quieter weeks arrive, with highs generally in the mid-teens. The slower pace suits museum visits, local markets and scenic drives along the coast. Crisp light over the Mediterranean often creates beautiful conditions for photography and relaxed exploration.

December

Winter remains relatively mild, usually around 12–15°C. Festive decorations appear across the city, and seasonal markets add atmosphere to squares and promenades. The cooler air and clear skies make coastal walks particularly refreshing at this time of year.
