When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Los Angeles starts the year with mild, sunny days and cooler evenings, with temperatures around 20°C. It’s a great time to explore Griffith Park or take scenic coastal drives without summer crowds. The Rose Parade in Pasadena kicks off the year with floral floats and marching bands, while awards season begins, drawing a buzz to Hollywood.

February

Mild temperatures continue, making it a great month for outdoor hikes in Runyon Canyon or visits to the Getty Center. Chinese New Year festivities light up Chinatown, and restaurant deals abound during dineL.A. The Oscar hype peaks, with film-related events leading up to the Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre.

March

Spring brings slightly warmer weather, ideal for visiting Malibu’s beaches or wandering through the blooming gardens of Descanso Gardens. The LA Marathon takes runners from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica, and sports fans welcome the return of baseball as the Dodgers begin their season at Dodger Stadium.

April

Spring is in full swing, with wildflower blooms in the surrounding hills and temperatures rising to the mid-20°Cs. Coachella draws music lovers to the desert, while in LA, the Fiesta Broadway festival celebrates Latin culture downtown. It’s also a great time to visit the Hollywood Bowl before the summer crowds arrive.

May

Warmer days signal the start of summer fun, with Memorial Day weekend bringing beach season into full swing. Outdoor film screenings begin at venues like the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and theme parks roll out new summer attractions. The temperature climbs, but the coastal breeze keeps it pleasant.

June

June Gloom brings overcast mornings, but the sun usually breaks through by midday, with temperatures around 26°C. Pride Month celebrations take over West Hollywood, and summer concerts kick off at the Greek Theatre and Hollywood Bowl. It’s a perfect time for rooftop bars and outdoor dining before the heat of July and August.

July

Peak summer sees highs of around 29°C, with the beaches of Venice, Santa Monica, and Zuma packed with sunseekers. The Fourth of July brings fireworks over the Pacific, and movie studios capitalize on blockbuster season with big premieres. It’s a great time for surfing in Malibu or escaping the heat with a visit to The Broad or LACMA.

August

The hottest month of the year, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, especially inland. Beach days, late-night rooftop events, and sunset hikes in Griffith Park are ideal ways to enjoy the season. It’s also prime time for catching a Dodgers game or cooling off at a rooftop pool in Downtown LA.

September

Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, but the warm weather lingers. The LA County Fair and Mexican Independence Day celebrations add excitement to the month. With slightly smaller crowds, it’s a great time to visit Universal Studios or Disneyland before Halloween events begin.

October

Halloween takes over the city, with Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, West Hollywood’s massive street party, and spooky events at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The weather remains warm, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities, whether visiting Joshua Tree for a weekend or enjoying an alfresco dinner at Grand Central Market.

November

Fall finally settles in with cooler evenings, though daytime highs still hover around 23°C. Thanksgiving brings festive dining and parades, and the Griffith Park Holiday Train Ride kicks off the holiday season. It’s a great month to visit museums or enjoy the quieter beaches before winter visitors arrive.

December

The holiday season transforms Los Angeles, with light displays at The Grove and boat parades in Marina del Rey and Newport Beach. Snow appears - at least artificially - in theme parks and mountain resorts just a short drive away. Awards season builds anticipation, and mild weather makes it a great time for exploring the city without the summer rush.
