Khao Lak

Khao Lak is the perfect destination for visitors looking to enjoy a relaxing holiday on Thailand’s stunning beaches away from the hustle and bustle of the country’s busier resorts.  Whilst the destination has a more relaxed pace of life compared to the high-octane energy of nearby Phuket, Khao Lak still possesses all the essential amenities of a beach resort, with a wide variety of activities and retail opportunities. With gorgeous powdery sands and inviting turquoise waters set against a backdrop of lush greenery. Located on the northern Andaman coast, Khao Lak also provides an ideal base for excursions to Khao Lak, Lam Ru and Khao Sok National Parks and the stunning Similan and Surin Islands.

When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

Khao Lak enjoys warm and dry weather in January, making it an ideal time for beach activities, snorkelling and diving. The calm seas and clear skies attract many tourists, but the natural beauty and laid-back vibe remain enchanting.

February

The dry season continues with plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. It's perfect for exploring Khao Lak’s beaches, national parks, and nearby islands like the Similan Islands, famous for diving and marine life.

March

March sees slightly warmer temperatures, but it remains a great time to visit with clear skies and calm seas. It’s perfect for water sports, island-hopping, and hiking through Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park. The crowds are still manageable.

April

April marks the hottest month in Khao Lak, but it's a lively time with the celebration of Songkran, the Thai New Year. Despite the heat, it's a fun cultural experience, and you can still enjoy the beach and water-based activities.

May

The rainy season begins in May with higher humidity and occasional downpours. While there are fewer tourists, the scenery remains lush and beautiful. It’s a good time for those seeking fewer crowds and lower prices, but some outdoor activities may be limited.

June

The rains continue, but Khao Lak is still a serene destination, especially for travellers who prefer quiet beaches and lush landscapes. It’s a good time for exploring waterfalls and enjoying the tropical scenery, though boat trips may be affected by weather.

July

The monsoon season is in full swing, bringing heavier rains and rougher seas. It’s not the best time for water activities, but you can still enjoy the rainforests and quieter resorts. Wildlife and nature lovers will appreciate the vibrant greenery.

August

Similar to July, August sees frequent rainfall and high humidity, but it offers a peaceful retreat for those seeking fewer tourists and a more relaxed atmosphere. Activities like waterfall hikes are ideal during this lush season.

September

September is the wettest month in Khao Lak, with frequent and heavy downpours. It’s a quiet time, perfect for those seeking solitude and lower prices, but outdoor activities and boat trips are often disrupted by the rain.

October

As the rainy season starts to taper off, October brings a mix of rain and sunshine. The landscapes are lush, and the crowds are still minimal. It’s a transitional period, with some good days for beach activities and island-hopping.

November

The dry season returns in November, with the rains subsiding and the skies clearing. The weather becomes more predictable, making it a great time to enjoy Khao Lak’s beaches, national parks, and outdoor activities without the peak season crowds.

December

December is one of the best months to visit Khao Lak, with perfect beach weather, calm seas, and plenty of sunshine. The holiday season brings more tourists, but it’s also the best time for diving, snorkelling, and enjoying the tropical paradise at its finest.
