When to Visit

Below gives you information and a rating of the best time of year to visit.

January

From the snow-blanketed landscapes of Vermont to the festive buzz of New York City, winter holds strong across much of the northern East Coast. In contrast, cities like Charleston and Miami offer a warmer retreat, with the latter often basking in highs around 24°C.

February

Winter lingers in Boston and Philadelphia, drawing skiers to the Appalachians and White Mountains. Meanwhile, the Southeast coasts offer blooming camellias, fewer crowds, and mild weather perfect for exploring Savannah’s historic squares or taking beach walks on Hilton Head Island.

March

Spring stirs along the Mid-Atlantic. Washington DC’s cherry blossoms begin to tease their arrival, while in Florida, it’s prime time for beachgoers - temperatures around St. Augustine and Daytona Beach often climb into the mid-20°Cs.

April

This is one of the most charming months along the East Coast. The National Cherry Blossom Festival lights up DC, while New England awakens with budding trees and café patios reopening. In North Carolina’s Outer Banks, kites dot the skies during the popular kite festival.

May

Mild, sunny days sweep up the coast. From coastal bike rides on Cape Cod to kayaking in Chesapeake Bay, outdoor activities flourish. In cities like New York and Boston, high temperatures hover comfortably around 22–24°C, ideal for park picnics and rooftop cocktails.

June

Summer kicks off with beach season in full swing. Cape May, Myrtle Beach, and Virginia Beach begin buzzing. In Maine and Rhode Island, lobster shacks open for the season, while nature trails in Acadia National Park become more accessible.

July

The height of summer delivers fireworks, festivals, and full beaches. Expect highs above 30°C in cities like Philadelphia and DC. Waterfront towns across the coast - from Bar Harbor to the Florida Keys - see their busiest month for boating, beach outings, and summer travel.

August

Heat and humidity remain strong in the south, but lakeside retreats in upstate New York or the Berkshires offer cooler escapes. Coastal New England still thrives, with peak season on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and the Hamptons. Ice cream trucks, county fairs, and long sunsets set the tone.

September

Crowds thin, but the warmth lingers, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. The Carolinas and Georgia still reach highs of around 28°C. It’s also prime time for seafood festivals, late-summer beach trips, and early foliage drives starting in higher elevations.

October

Autumn blazes across New England with fiery foliage in the Adirondacks, Catskills, and Vermont. Coastal towns from Connecticut to Delaware offer crisp walks and harvest events. The cooler weather makes city breaks in places like Boston or Richmond especially inviting.

November

The holiday season begins to show across the region. Central Park sheds its golden leaves, Thanksgiving parades fill the streets, and quiet coastal areas like Cape Cod take on a peaceful, windswept charm. In the south, pleasant temperatures around 22°C make it a great month for exploring St. Augustine or Charleston.

December

From Rockefeller Center’s ice rink to candlelit tours in Williamsburg, December delivers classic American charm. Snow is likely in the northern half, while festive warmth and palm-lined lights decorate Florida cities. Miami and Key West often enjoy balmy highs in the mid-20°Cs, offering a sunny contrast to the snow globe scenes farther north.
