January

Budapest experiences chilly winter weather in January, with temperatures often ranging from -1°C to 3°C. The city’s thermal baths, like Széchenyi or Gellért, provide a warm escape from the cold, and snow occasionally dusts the rooftops of the Buda Castle District.

February

February remains cold, though the days slowly grow longer. It’s an ideal time to enjoy the city’s cafés or explore the Hungarian National Museum without the crowds.

March

By March, spring starts to peek through, with temperatures climbing to around 5°C to 12°C. The Danube River sparkles in the sunlight, and the parks begin to awaken with the first blooms of the season.

April

In April, Budapest bursts into life, with mild weather perfect for outdoor activities. Temperatures hover around 10°C to 18°C, making it an excellent time to stroll along Andrássy Avenue or visit Margaret Island.

May

May brings warmer days, with temperatures reaching 15°C to 23°C. The city’s open-air ruin bars and terraces come alive, and the annual Budapest Spring Festival fills the streets with music and art.

June

June sees summer in full swing, with temperatures climbing to around 20°C to 26°C. Evening cruises on the Danube are particularly enchanting, as the city’s landmarks light up against the night sky.

July

In July, Budapest enjoys hot, sunny days, often reaching 30°C. It’s the perfect time to cool off at Lupa Beach or take a dip in the city’s famous baths. Festivals, including music and food events, dominate the summer calendar.

August

It remains warm heading into Autumn with temperatures around 28°C to 32°C or so. The St. Stephen’s Day celebrations on August 20th bring fireworks and festivities, showcasing the city’s vibrant cultural spirit.

September

September brings cooler, pleasant weather, with temperatures easing to 18°C to 24°C. The autumn colours start to appear at the tail-end of the month in City Park, and the Budapest Wine Festival offers a taste of Hungary’s finest vintages.

October

In October, the autumn foliage is in full swing, and the crisp air makes for perfect walking tours. Temperatures range from 10°C to 16°C, and the city’s historic sites, such as Fisherman’s Bastion, are particularly atmospheric.

November

There's a definite chill in the air in November, with temperatures dropping to around 5°C to 10°C. Budapest’s Christmas lights begin to appear, and the city starts gearing up for the festive season with mulled wine and seasonal treats.

December

December is magical in Budapest, with temperatures ranging from -2°C to 3°C. The Christmas markets in Vörösmarty Square and St. Stephen’s Basilica offer a cosy charm, while ice skating under the fairy lights at City Park is a highlight.
