Rich in history, Morocco is home to many archaeological treasures and magical, ancient medinas. The country has nine World Heritage site including the historic city of Meknes, the Roman settlement Volubulis and the scenic old port of Essaouira. A trip to Morocco wouldn’t be complete without a tour of the Sahara and Atlas Mountains, nor without experiencing the delightful gastronomy.
Let us inspire you…
The most recommended places to visit in Morocco include the medina in Fez, the souks of Marrakech, the blue village of Chefchaouen and the unspoilt Atlas Mountains. Two of our favourite places in the Atlas Mountains have to be Ouzoud Falls and Todra Gorge.
The most iconic scenery is found amongst the hidden oases between the remote villages of the Atlas Mountains. For a captivating Instagram sunset shot, head to the fortified town of Ait Benhaddou. Rural Moroccan life can be captured at its finest while hiking the Ait Bouguemez Valley.
Moroccan cuisine is hearty and full of flavour, and there are many delicious dishes that you can try whilst visiting. Meat is usually served in a tagine with a wide selection of spiced vegetables and couscous. Most dishes are prepared with nuts or dried fruit and spices such as saffron, paprika and turmeric.
One of the best things to do in Morocco is to simply ‘walk’. Trek, hike, whatever verb you wish to use, just do it – with a decent means of taking a photo too of course! If the pace of walking is too slow for you, arrange a bike ride and enjoy your surrounding that way instead.
When to explore…
- The best time to visit Morocco is in the spring or autumn months when the weather is warm without the scorching head of summer
- During those seasons, temperatures are in the low to medium 20°s celsius. July to August will see temperatures rise to around 29°C
- December and January are the coldest months with the ‘cool’ season running from November to March
- Note that even in the summer, outside temperatures will be chilly overnight in the desert. Added layers are recommended if travelling to the Sahara – for protection against cold and unexpected sandstorms
